4th Annual Desert Orthopedics Great Nordeen Ski Race
In celebration of Central Oregon ski history, the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation is excited to be hosting the 4th Annual Desert Orthopedics Great Nordeen Nordic Ski Race on January 21st, 2006. The freestyle event starts at the Sunrise Lodge and descends through 36 km of lava flows, hemlock and pine forest stands. The racecourse, groomed only once a year for the event, will be prepared for skate and classic skiers. The race honors Emil Nordeen, the decorated Central Oregon ski pioneer from the 1930s and 1940s.
Top competitors receive $1,000 in cash prizes and over $1,500 will be awarded in raffle prizes. Awards will go to age class winners.
A banquet will follow that evening at the Bend Armory at 6 p.m. featuring Pepsi and beer from the Deschutes Brewery. There will also be live entertainment from the band
Entry is $45 through Dec. 23rd, $55 Dec. 24th-Jan.6th, and $65 Jan. 7th-Jan. 18th. No day of race registration is available. Entrees include 1 pass to the Awards Ceremony and Banquet that evening. Additional banquet tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. Cash & prizes will be awarded.
The Desert Orthopedics Great Nordeen is a fundraising event for the MBSEF Nordic department to support race-training programs and keep program costs down for MBSEF, Junior and Youth skiers.
