"Changing the Game in Skiing"

Presented by John O'Sullivan

Full Weekend Schedule

Sat. Oct. 12:   John O’Sullivan of Changing the Game Project is the headline speaker.  He is going to talk about the need for a cultural shift in sports and how we embrace and implement the changes in our own clubs.  John will present 2 sessions during the conference, as well as a Q & A session with the audience.  US Ski & Snowboard is sending 2 speakers for the event.  Ellen Adams, Club Development Manager,  will speak on “Club Development” and working towards USSS club certification.  Currently only 1 club in PNSA (MAC, Bronze Level) has gone through the certification process – we need to inspire more clubs to get involved with the process.  Chris Miller, Athletic Development Coach-Alpine D Team, will present “Athletic Development – Movement & Fitness Assessments, Physical Literacy/Education for Development”.  Chris will speak to the   importance of physical training for athletes.  And Jennifer Bhalla, PHD, Associate Professor/Exercise Science Pacific University will speak on “Women Coaches – the Myths and the Facts”.  It’s a full slate of information geared towards all the coaches, athletes and parents in PNSA.

And there is more.  US Ski & Snowboard Sport Education is looking to get more Alpine Level 300 and up coaches certified as Level I clinic leaders.  There will be a late afternoon session for those interested in pursuing this level.

Sun. Oct. 13: US Ski & Snowboard is hosting a Validated Skills Quest-Fitness Test.  PNSA was not originally scheduled to host an event of this nature, but with perseverance we have gotten Calin Butterfield, USSS High Performance Coordinator, to put us on the schedule.    Coaches will work directly with Calin and his staff learning about the testing protocol and helping the athletes through the process.  The athletes will receive their results and be able to compare themselves to other athletes across the country who have taken the test, including members of the US Ski Team.  Testing is for all PNSA athletes (U16 & Older) – Alpine and Nordic.

(U16 & Older - Athletes must register to attend testing – please use the above link.)

  Stop the Bleed Training

Sat. Oct. 12, 4pm to 6pm at Hood River Middle School.
All alpine ski races must have Stop the Bleed kits at the start for the 2019-20 season.  But what good is a kit if you aren't trained in the procedures?  This is your chance to learn how to Stop the Bleed.  And if you are a nurse or EMS, you can take additional training during this course to become a trainer for your club and PNSA.
Only 16 spots available.  Registration closes Oct. 5, 2019.  Sign up now!
